Nancy Hanes Funderburg, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. She was in her home in Lake Odessa, Michigan, with family by her side. Nancy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She decorated her home with the word "joy" as a reminder to herself and others of the joy found in Christ. She dedicated her life to Jesus' commandments in Matthew 22 to love God and others.
Nancy was born in Niles, Michigan, on February 13, 1941, to Dalvin and Helen Hanes. She graduated from Galien High School and was married to Mick Funderburg on July 11, 1959.
As a child, her best friend and neighbor, Liz Mollenkott, shared with her the good news of salvation, and Nancy trusted Jesus as her Savior. For nearly 50 years, Nancy prayed for her parents to make the same decision. A few years before their passing, her prayers were answered, and they both trusted Jesus as their Savior.
Nancy was a member of Calvary Grace Brethren Church in Alto, Michigan, where her husband, Mick, was pastor for 22 years. She was a great partner in encouraging each congregation he pastored during his 44 years in the ministry. Nancy led ladies' Bible studies, taught child evangelism clubs, and welcomed many people into their home. She is remembered for her hospitality and kindness.
She is also remembered for her love of God's Word and music. She read through the Bible many times, played the trombone and organ, sang, and conducted the church choir and cantatas. She had a joyful laugh and loved playing board games with her grandchildren. Nancy also worked as an Avon Representative and as a receptionist at Dr. Wisman's office in Hastings.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Janice.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, children Mick Jr. (Jodie) Funderburg of Gray, TN, Laura (Elwyn) McMindes of Oklahoma City, OK, Mark (Barbara) Funderburg of Greensboro, NC, LeAnna (Ray) Finsaas of Woodland, MI, 11 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, brother David (Bonnie) Hanes of Galien, MI, several nieces and nephews.
