Nora Mae Gaugier, age 90, of Middleville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025. She was born on April 5, 1935, in Big Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Doyle) Spedoske.
Nora graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1953 and married John E. Gaugier in 1955. They shared 56 wonderful years together before his passing in 2011.
Throughout her life, Nora wore many hats with love and dedication. She worked as a bookkeeper, homemaker, and cook—sharing her talents at a women's home in Lansing and later at a fraternity house at Michigan State University. Her warm heart and generous spirit extended beyond her home and workplace. In her retirement, she lovingly volunteered with the Women's Club of Hastings, Pennock Hospital Gift Shop, and more recently shared her love of gardening, decorating and baking with her fellow residents/friends at Lincoln Meadows Senior Citizen Apartments. She was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John E. Gaugier; her son, John G. Gaugier; and her siblings Mary Lovell, Joe Spedoske, Dom Spedoske, Kathleen Kamp, Betty Westley, Martha Bowden, and Barbara Bartolema.
She is lovingly remembered by her children Mary (Mark) Stroh of Silverdale, WA, Kevin (Ilse) Gaugier of Middleville, MI, and Patty Holmquist of Coldwater, MI; her cherished grandchildren Jonathon (Becky) Gaugier, Jessica (Matthew) Hadley, Kyle Stroh, Kelly Stroh, Mel Holmquist, and Katie Holmquist; and her treasured great-grandchildren Ava Gaugier, Nora Hadley, Lena Hadley, Kellen Gaugier, and Reese Gaugier. Nora also leaves behind a dear sister, Patricia Lyle, sisters-in-law Sr. Josephine Gaugier and Connie Gaugier, daughter-in-law Lynn Freel, many beloved nieces and nephews, and her very special Sunshine Girls.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Ave SE, Caledonia, MI 49316, with visitation one hour prior.
