Noralee Bracy, age 90, a life-long resident of the Hastings area, passed away in the early hours of June 26, 2016, at the Thornapple Manor, after a short battle with cancer. She was born on December 16, 1925 in Cloverdale, MI. She was one of eight daughters and three sons to Carl and Ada Gillons, also life-long residents of Hastings.
Noralee graduated from Hastings High School in 1943 and worked at Kellogg's in Battle Creek for ten years. During that time she met and married Max Bracy of Battle Creek on June 21, 1947. Max and Noralee were married for 53 years before his passing on October 31, 2000. Noralee loved family, family gatherings, family vacations, cooking, baking and caring for her family which was the greatest joy of her life. She was good to the less fortunate and her children recall the many acts of kindness she showed to others. After her children were grown, Noralee went to work at Tender Care of Hastings, where she came as close as she could to fulfilling her hearts desire of being a nurse. She was proud of her position as nurses aide.
Noralee has attended the Hastings Free Methodist Church for the past 20 years and was an active participant in the activities of the Barry County COA. She loved people and was known as friendly, energetic and compassionate. She loved music and dance, games, bowling and anything that involved moving. She lived up to her high school yearbook moniker as, "A friend to all".
Noralee was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ada Gillons, brothers, Howard and Frank, sisters, Leah Phillips, Thea Hart, Alma Osborne, Mina McGrath, Audrey Pagliai,Barbara Dalstra, and son-in-law, Joe Daniels. She also lost her precious first grandson, Joseph Bracy.
She is survived by her son, Barton (Sue) Bracy of Florida, Karen (Kent) VanBuren of Woodland, Christine (Rick) Fowler of Essexville. Grandchildren: Wade (Julia) Bracy, Lucas (Liz) Bracy, Austin Curtis, Jordan (Eddie) Gonzales, and step-grandsons: Alex (Heather) and Christopher (Mallorie) VanBuren. Great-grandchildren: Valin, Taylor, Emily, Audrey, Ty and Kaylee. She is also survived by one brother, Wesley (Opal) Gillons and sister, Margaret Bell.
Noralee also left behind her special companion of 9 years, Ted Allerding. Her family appreciates all that Ted did to alleviate days of loneliness and his faithfulness to her at her bedside these past 60 days.
Dearly loved and respected by her children, who could never have hoped for a better mother are honoring her wishes to have a private graveside memorial service at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, where she will be interred with her husband Max.
In lieu of any other considerations, the family requests that friends and family consider making donations to Thornapple Manor or Great Lakes Hospice, whose care, respect, kindness and consideration have no bounds. The staff at these two wonderful institutions have our sincere gratitude and appreciation for their dedication to service.
