Richard Wayne Taggart passed away on August 3, 2024, in his hometown of Hastings, Michigan. He was born in Hastings on February 13, 1935, to George and Iva (Rose) Taggart.
Dick attended Freeport High School and proudly served his country in the US Army. He furthered his education at the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music. Dick's calling led him to serve at Casco and Chicora Churches in the South Haven area, as well as at the Algonquin Lake Bible Church. After these years of pastoral service, Dick transitioned to a career as a truck driver for Steelcase.
Dick had a love for riding motorcycles, feeling the freedom of the open road and the camaraderie of fellow riders. His mechanical aptitude was not just a hobby but a part of who he was. Dick could often be found tinkering with engines and automobiles, his hands greasy as he worked to figure out how they operated. His curiosity and skill meant that he was always ready to tackle a new project or solve a complex problem.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Iva Taggart; his brothers, Martin, Jim, Gene, and Glen Taggart; his sisters, Ruth, Pat, and Judy; his two sons, Clinton and Gene Taggart; and his ex-wife, Joan Taggart.
He is survived by his second wife of 11 years, Shirley Farrow.
He is also survived by his son, Dwayne (Jeanette) Taggart; his daughter, Rebecca (Jason) Ringleka; daughters-in-law, Sandy Taggart and Maria Taggart; his 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Community Baptist Church, 502 E Grand St, Hastings, MI 49058. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home. To leave an online condolence visit www.girrbachfuneralhome.net.
