Robert Lee Pierce, age 85 of Hastings , died on Sunday June 28, 2009 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. \r
He was born September 1, 1923 in Hastings, Michigan, the son of Loren D. and Mary G. (Ochsenbein) Pierce. \r
He graduated from Hastings High School in 1942. He then entered the United States Army on March 20, 1943 and served until January 14, 1946 when he was honorably discharged. \r
Bob was married to Bonnie Jean Drake on March 5, 1946. \r
He worked for his Father-In-Law , Howard Drake as a milk hauler and then worked as a truck driver for Michigan Milk Producers Association and General Foods. He retired from General Foods in 1985. \r
Robert loved spending time with his family. He liked fishing, hunting, gardening, collecting stamps and loved to play Euchre. He loved to cut wood for his big furnace, he also loved sports of any kind, especially golf, football and the Detroit Tigers. \r
Robert is survived by his wife Bonnie Pierce of 63 years, also his daughters Brenda (Ken) Cole of Hillsdale, Michigan, Sally (Bruce) Dietel of Chase, Michigan, Patty White of Hastings, Michigan, and his son John Pierce of Lakeland, Florida, his 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.\r
He was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 brothers Donald and Wayne Pierce, and 4 sisters Marian, Lucille, Hilda, and Annetta.\r
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6-8pm with a Rosary at 5:30pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday July 2, 2009 at 11:00am at Our Lady Of Great Oak Church in Lacey , Fr. Craig Lusk Officiating. Burial with full Military Honors by the American Legion Post #45 will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Hastings.\r
Memorials can be made to St. Rose School in Hastings.\r
