Russell Burton Rothrock

September 16, 1941 — January 25, 2024

Battle Creek

Russell Burton Rothrock passed away on January 25, 2024, in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was born on September 16, 1941, in Washington, DC, to Harold and Mary (Schumacher) Rothrock, who precede him in death.

Russell graduated from Dartmouth College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Tulane University in 1969. His passion for medicine and helping others led him to a distinguished career as a neurosurgeon, where he practiced in various cities, including Louisville and Bowling Green, Kentucky; Dothan, Alabama; Flint, Michigan; and finally, Battle Creek, Michigan, until his retirement in 1997.

Russell is survived by his twin sons, Raeburn (Tracy) Rothrock of Costa Mesa, CA, and Reed (Ellyce) Rothrock of Fountain Valley, CA, and his daughter, Caryn Rothrock-McNally of Poolesville, MD.

An avid reader, Russell found solace and excitement in the pages of books. His love for both world and art history was not confined to books; he was a frequent visitor to museums, where he could immerse himself in the stories and beauty of past civilizations. Traveling was another of Russell's passions, allowing him to experience diversity of cultures and landscapes. Russell also enjoyed swimming, which he found to be both a relaxing and invigorating exercise. His musical ability shone through his piano playing, a hobby that brought him and those around him great joy.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Stacy Rothrock Memorial Fund, Albion College, 611 E Porter St, Albion, Michigan 49224, which was established in honor of his late wife.

A Celebration of Russell's life is being planned. The details of the service, including the location, date, and time, will be posted here soon. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home. To leave an online condolence visit www.girrbachfuneralhome.net.
