Sheila Kay Johnson

August 15, 1954 — May 25, 2024

Sheila Kay Johnson passed away on May 25, 2024. She was born on August 15, 1954, in Hastings, Michigan, the daughter of Jule and Alberta (Belson) Turner.

Sheila was a 1972 graduate of Thornapple-Kellogg High School, and on April 17, 1981, she married the love of her life, Joe B. Johnson, and they enjoyed 43 years together.

Sheila worked at Banner Co-Op High School and Progressive Graphics, but her most cherished role was at the UAW 1002 Union Hall. For 12 years, she served as Clerk/Secretary, where her expertise and genuine care for the well-being of the employees shone brightly. Sheila's ability to navigate complex contract questions with ease and empathy made her a trusted and respected figure, despite never working in the shop herself.

Sheila was an avid birdwatcher and found joy in feeding her beloved hummingbirds. She delighted in mushroom hunting. She loved Detroit Redwing Hockey. Her love for her dogs was unparalleled, often stating she adored them "more than some people."

Sheila was a master at crafts, and her hands were rarely still. She also loved to cook and bake. Birthdays were sacred to Sheila; she never forgot one and always made sure to call her relatives, keeping them abreast of current events and family milestones.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents Jule and Alberta (Belson) Turner, her brother Jule Turner, Jr., her sister Linda Varney, and her nephew Tyler Turner.

Sheila's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her devoted husband, Joe B. Johnson, her brothers James Turner, Paul (Jennifer) Turner, niece Amy Dutcher, nephew Peter Varney, and several other nieces and nephews.

Following Sheila's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no services.  Memorial Contributions can be made to Barry County Relay for Life (www.relayforlife.org/barrymi ). Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home. To leave an online condolence visit www.girrbachfuneralhome.net.
