Shirley June Ames

March 19, 1935 — January 16, 2024

Hastings

Shirley June Ames passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024, in Hastings, Michigan. She was born on March 19, 1935, at Caldwell County Hospital in Caldwell County, Kentucky, the daughter of Golena and Lillard (Rich) Kemp.

Shirley's early years in Kentucky set the stage for a life filled with love, music, and the beauty of nature. After graduating from Farragut High School in 1956, Shirley's heart led her to the altar where she married David Ames, the love of her life. Together, they built a family, a sanctuary of warmth and affection, which would be her greatest legacy.

Professionally, Shirley dedicated herself to serving others, as a secretary at the Barry-Eaton Health Department and as a caregiver in a foster care home.

Shirley's interests reflected her soul. She found solace in the pages of her Bible, joy in the melodies that flowed from her piano, organ, and dulcimer, and peace in the care of her dogs and the vibrant life of her plants and flowers.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband David, her son Jeffery, her daughters Melony Ames and Michelle Ostergrem, her parents, her siblings Dora Tudor and John Kemp, and her great-grandchild Ryker Ames.

Shirley's love endures through her daughter Cherly (Ted) Demott, her son Christopher (Heidi) Ames, her sisters Deloris Gill and Phyllis Cree, her grandchildren Felicia and Cassandra, Brad (Kelsey), Carson and Jennelle, Rachel (Anthony), and Tim, and her great-grandchildren Jordan, Collin, Jaedon, Madison, Cameryn, Logan, Ellie, Ava, Logan, Makenzie, and William.
