Shirley A. Leiter, age 82 of Hastings, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015.
Shirley was born on August 30, 1932 in Lakeview, Michigan, the daughter of Versal and Alma Bailey. She attended Montcalm area schools and the Adventist Academy. She married William Leiter on August 11, 1951.
Shirley worked for various businesses around the Barry County area which included, Flex Fab, Baby Bliss and the Highlander Country Store. Shirley's favorite job was newspaper delivery for the Battle Creek Enquirer News for over 20 years. She frequently had large difficult rural routes that were over 80 miles a day, seven days a week. Shirley retired in 2000 from the newspaper delivery business.
She enjoyed gardening and flowers. In later years she was very sharp with crossword puzzles.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Versal Bailey and mother, Alma Boggs, as well as her husband William Leiter in February of 2007.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Alan) Echtinaw, three granddaughters; Kara (Bill) Andrews, Katlyn (Matthew) Shaw, and Julie Faunce, six great-grandchildren, brother, Edwin (Wanda) Muste of Adrian, MI, sisters: Shirley (James) Warren of Bonneau, SC, and Mary Anna (Gary) White of Sheridan, MI.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings. A one hour visitation period will precede the memorial service from 1-2 pm.
