Tamara "Tammy" Lee Markle (Hayner), 63, of Hastings, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with COPD.
Tammy was born on July 9, 1962, in San Diego, California. She spent her childhood in both New Mexico and Michigan, making friends wherever she went—a gift she carried throughout her life. Those who knew Tammy will remember her for her humor, spunk, sass, and infectious zest for life. People were naturally drawn to her vibrant energy and generous spirit.
After school, Tammy ran an in-home daycare for several years, allowing her to be present for her own children while also creating a loving and safe space for many others. Later, she became a CNA, where her natural empathy, humor, and kindness made her a beloved caregiver to many patients and families.
As a single mom, Tammy raised her three children with fierce love and resilience. She was also a surrogate mom to many of their friends, always ready with understanding, a warm heart, and a listening ear.
After years of friendship—and "running out of patience"—Tammy popped the question to the love of her life, Jim. They were married in Oahu on June 10, 2002, and together, they shared a life full of music festivals, canoeing adventures, and travel. On quieter days, they loved bonfires, cookouts, their grandkids, and their dogs.
Tammy was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her beloved husband, Jim Markle of Hastings, Michigan; her children, Amanda (Isaac) Williams-Smith, Tommy (Chrissie) Williams, and Kristin (Ryan) Argo; grandchildren Keeghyn (Riley), Aihsley, Karsyn, Chesnhey, Kooper, Krew, Maddie, and Endelihn; great-grandson Llywelyn; her dearest friends Terees, Momma Pat, and Jane; and special cousin Becky. She will be missed immensely by her dogs, Frank and Amber Lainey.
A lifelong advocate for animals and second chances, Tammy's generous heart extended to both people and pets. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to All Species Kinship (A.S.K.) or the Hastings Serenity Club.
Tammy's sense of humor, her love for a little mischief, and her deep loyalty and friendship will be missed by so many—but we know she'd want the shenanigans to continue.
Per her wishes, no formal service will be held. A celebration of life for close friends and family will be planned at a later date. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home. To leave online condolences, visit www.girrbachfuneralhome.net.
