Thomas J. DeVries, age 61 of Hastings, MI passed away Monday, August 2, 2010. He was born on March 1, 1949 the son of John and Ruth (Barnum) DeVries. Thomas served two tours in the Vietnam war from 1968 to 1971. He was a POW and received the following medals; National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one silver star, sharpshooter (M-14 rifle) and Expert (M-16 rifle). He was married on February 14, 1989 to Sally (Taylor) DeVries. Thomas enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling, video games, wood working and building things. \r
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth (Barnum) DeVries, and brother, David DeVries.\r
Thomas is survived by his wife, Sally DeVries of Hastings, MI, brothers, William (Grace) DeVries of Ohio, Robert (Carol) DeVries of Michigan, Garry DeVries of Coldwater, MI, sons, LeRoy (Jackie) Derby of Arkansas, Terry Derby of Hastings, MI, Dale Derby of Hastings, MI, Bruce (Mary) DeVries of New Jersey, Bradley DeVries of Muskegon, MI and Boyd DeVries, daughters, Candy (Mike) Laster of Middleville, MI, Barbara DeVries of Muskegon, MI, eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.\r
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.\r
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 1:00pm at the Girrbach Funeral Home in Hastings, MI. \r
Chaplain Joyce Zaagman will be officiating the service.\r
