Thomas Chester Girrbach

Thomas Chester Girrbach, Jr., age 71, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026. Born on October 31, 1954, in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Thomas Chester Sr. and Florence Marion (Sclater) Girrbach, Tom lived a life rooted in family, hard work, and the outdoors.

A 1973 graduate of Hastings High School, Tom was known for his dedication across his careers with Viking Corporation, Bradford White, and Girrbach Funeral Home. On June 24, 2007, he married Kathleen Sue Tynan. Together, they cherished 19 wonderfully happy years.

Tom found his greatest joy in simple pleasures: hunting, fishing, golfing, cutting wood, and above all, spending time with his family, children, and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending time at his property up north. He lived life to its fullest.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathleen Schantz.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his children, Tommy (Jasmene) Girrbach, Breanna (Nick) Chase, and Abby Girrbach (Julio Gonzalez, Jr.); his treasured grandchildren, Ezra Girrbach, Hayden Chase, and Waylon Chase; his siblings, Tim (Stephanie) Girrbach, Ray (Deb) Girrbach, Ken (Tammy) Girrbach, Tia Girrbach (DK Sappington), and Sheri Girrbach; along with many nieces, nephews, and his faithful dog, Maggie Mae.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with a memorial service immediately following at 3:00 PM at Leason Sharpe Hall in the Barry Community Enrichment Center (231 S. Broadway, Hastings, MI 49058). A light luncheon will follow.
