Vivian Maxine Gates was born on December 24, 1941, to Flossie and Harry Field. She gained her wings on August 3, 2024, as she passed away at Corewell Health Hospital.
Vivian grew up in Greenville, Michigan, where she graduated. Vivian met and married Charles Gates on September 19, 1961. He and Vivian resided in Hastings with their three children.
Vivian worked at Thornapple Manor until her retirement in 2007. She enjoyed her small hobby farm, including horses, goats, ducks, geese, cats and dogs. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family and helping others. She loved Elvis, reading, and gardening.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles Gates and brother Leslie Field.
She is survived by her three daughters Charlene (Jerry Raak) Rose and Roxane McManaway, both of Hastings, Michigan, Laura (Don) Delange of Cedar Springs, Michigan, adopted son Daniel Burton of Hastings, Michigan, sister Leona Johnson, grandkids Kristin (Jay) Visser, Amber (Troy) Collige, Walter (Shilo) McManaway, Stevi Kay McManaway, all of Hastings, Michigan, PJ (Erica) French of Norfolk, Virginia, several great-grandkids, brother-in-law Floyd Gates. She will be missed by her loving cats and dogs, and several nieces and nephews.
Vivian's wishes were to be cremated with no formal service, however a memorial luncheon will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Tyden Park in Hastings, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Barry County Animal Shelter, 540 North Industrial Park Drive Hastings, Michigan 49058. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home.
