Walter James Zeigler, age 85 of Baldwin and formerly of Hastings, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at Thornapple Manor.
Walter was born on January 9, 1931 in Hastings, Michigan, the son of Elmer and Mary (Sackett) Zeigler. He attended Hastings Area Schools.
Walter worked several years at The Viking Corporation in Hastings. He then became a self employed Siding Installer until he retired.
Walter married Jeanette Kosbar on April 1, 1950. Walt enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially loved it when his children and grandchildren would come for the weekend to their home that they built in the woods of Baldwin. He enjoyed fishing, dunebuggying, cutting wood, and tinkering with many projects in his garage. His greatest joy was metal detecting and he was always willing to share his secrets of metal detecting with anyone who would listen.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette (2014) and son, David Zeigler, parents, Elmer and Mary Zeigler, sisters, Marie Williams and Alvina Miller, and brother, Clyde Zeigler.
He is survived by his daughters, Diane (Ray) Slagle of Texas, Shire (Bob) Wilkins of Hastings, Kim (Dana) Roush of Hastings, grandchildren: Steve Slagle and Tim Slagle of Texas, Jason (Barb) Johncock, Chad (Shawna) Johncock, Sarah (Chad) Keizer, Jessica (Nathan) Selby, Kendall (Tiffany) Rees and Katie Wilkins (Fiance' David Wright) all of Hastings, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.
A private family graveside service will be held at Fuller Cemetery in Hastings, Michigan.
