William Larry Cappon, Sr., of Hastings, passed away on April 19, 2026, at the age of 83. He was born on February 11, 1943, in Hastings, the son of William C. Cappon and Betty L. Warner.
Larry graduated from Woodland High School in 1961, where he also enjoyed playing basketball. During his school years, he worked alongside his father on the family farm, instilling in him a lifelong appreciation for hard work. Following graduation, he spent three years driving semi trucks before beginning a long and dedicated career with General Motors, where he worked from 1964 until his retirement in 1994. In 1996, he returned to driving as a bus driver for Cardinal Busses Inc, a job he truly enjoyed for the people he met and the memorable meals he discovered along the way.
Larry had a deep love for the outdoors, especially deer hunting and watching wildlife, including birds and squirrels. He was an avid basketball fan and had a lifelong interest in cars, once proudly owning a GTO. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family. He also had a special fondness for his neighbor’s dog, Shelby, and was a familiar and beloved face at the Auction House Restaurant.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Cappon; his sons, William Larry Cappon, Jr. and Tom Cappon; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; his sister, Susan (Mike) Snyder; and two nephews.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Girrbach Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, also at the funeral home with Visitation one hour prior. Larry will be laid to rest at Warner Cemetery.
