William James Gleason, Sr.

William James Gleason, Sr., age 94, originally of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on September 26, 2023, in Middleville, Michigan.

William was born on September 29, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of John and Lillian (Hogan) Gleason.  He was a 1946 graduate of St. Patrick's High School in Chicago, IL.  On February 2, 1963, William married Marilyn Dalton, and they enjoyed 27 years together until her passing in August of 1990.

William proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.  He was a Captain of the Chicago Fire Department, retiring in September of 1992.

William was a member of the Chicago Firefighters Union Local #2 and was a "Friend of Bill W."

William was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Gleason, daughter Margaret Brasher, his parents John and Lillian Gleason, and siblings John "Jack" Gleason and Margaret Anderson.

He was the stepfather of Gayle (Frank) LaRocco and Eugene Blomquist, and the father of the late Margaret (Michael) Brasher, Mary (Gary) Altman, William J. Gleason, Jr., Lenora (Bruce) Johnson, and Beverly (Kevin) Bull, grandfather of Timothy Brasher, Christopher Greene, Amanda Dovalina, Sarah Myers, Rosemary Brasher, Gary Altman, Jr., Jacob Bull, Matthew Bull, Margaret Gleason, and Erin Bull, great-grandfather of 7, and loving uncle to many.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 805 S. Jefferson, Hastings, Michigan, on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 10:00 AM with Celebrant Father Jeff Hanley.  A private burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home.
