In Loving Memory of Xuan-Mai Thi Roush
Xuan-Mai Thi Roush, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2023, at the age of 74. Born on December 24, 1948, she lived a life filled with courage, resilience, and love. Xuan-Mai will forever be remembered for her strength and bravery during the Vietnam War, where she exhibited unwavering determination even in the face of adversity.
In September 1967, she married her beloved husband, William J. Roush, at the U.S. Embassy in South Vietnam's Mekong Delta. Their love and companionship endured throughout the years, as they faced the trials of life together, including being wounded in an attack during the war. Xuan-Mai was treated at a U.S. Forces field hospital, where she and William were medevaced together. Despite being hit in the leg, she continued to show remarkable resilience throughout her life.
In June 2023, she was hospitalized due to an infection in her leg, the same leg wounded during the Vietnam War. Despite this, she displayed incredible strength and determination, as she had done throughout her life.
Xuan-Mai was a devoted mother to her three children, Andy, Aija, and Yvon. Her love and care for them knew no bounds, and her memory will forever live on in their hearts.
Outside of her military experiences and family life, Xuan-Mai had a deep passion for reading and studying the Bible. She would spend 8 to 10 hours a day reading and underlining its sacred verses, showcasing her profound devotion to her faith. Her love for nature was evident through her admiration for all types of birds and flowers, and she took joy in caring for her beautiful garden.
Xuan-Mai was preceded in death by both her parents, who were also from South Vietnam. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of strength, love, and deep faith will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to share in her journey.
May she rest in peace, forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
