Robert ("Bob") John Brogan, age 87, of Hastings, MI passed away on August 1, 2018 at Green Acres Assisted Living in Mason, MI.
Bob was born in Hastings, MI on March 4, 1931. He was the son of Warren James and Georgia Irene (Colvin) Brogan. He attended Hendershott School as a child and graduated from Hastings High School in 1947. He completed an Agricultural Short Course program at Michigan State University in 1948.
Bob married Doris Mae Rizor of Ann Arbor, MI on May 31, 1952. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army in Long Island, NY during the Korean conflict. After completing his term, Bob and Doris returned to Hastings where they lived until 2014. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 31 years (1956-86) serving at the Hastings post office as a clerk, supervisor of mails, assistant postmaster, and postmaster (1977-86).
Bob's life was characterized by his integrity, his strong work ethic, and his Christian faith. He was an active member of Hope United Methodist Church in Hastings for nearly 40 years. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Doris. He is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law – Steve and Sue Brogan of Daleville, IN; Denny and Sue Brogan of Lansing, MI; and John and Kathy Brogan of Holland, MI; eight grandchildren – Jessica (Robert) Groves of West Chester, OH; Jamie (Andrew) Vanderput of Grand Rapids, MI; Stacey Brogan of Denver, CO; Erin (Bryce) Vander Stelt of Holland, MI; Kaitlin (Joel) Aston of Llanelli, Wales, UK; Joel Brogan of South Bend, IN; Luke Brogan of Anderson, IN; and Iann Brogan of Daleville, IN; and eleven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be given to Cedar Campus, an InterVarsity Christian Fellowship camp where Bob and Doris loved to visit with their family. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:00 am at Hope United Methodist Church in Hastings, MI. Visitation with the family will take place before the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services provided by Girrbach Funeral Home.
